FIRM HISTORY

The Gaines Law Firm, LLC was established in August of 2007 by Cleophus (JR) Gaines, Jr.  JR attended Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, where he received a Bachelor in Business Administration degree and a Master of Accountancy degree.  Thereafter, JR received his law degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and an LL.M. or Masters in Law Graduate degree in Taxation from the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.

For approximately five years, JR worked in the Alabama Department of Revenue- Legal Division.  While there, JR prosecuted individuals, companies and major corporations for infractions of the personal and corporate tax laws of the State of Alabama.  In addition, JR represented the State in various tax issues in circuit and administrative courts.  As a result of this experience, JR realized the need for concerned, dedicated, and experienced attorneys, especially in the area of tax.

Although the firm maintains a centralized practice in the areas of tax and estate planning, the firm also boasts of expertise in other practice areas including: personal injury, wrongful death, civil defense, criminal defense, wills and trusts, guardianships, administrative law, and real estate.

While practicing in his firm, JR is concurrently a professor at a longstanding institution of higher learning where he teaches accounting, business law, administrative law, and tax to undergraduate and graduate students.

As a native of the Black Belt, JR seeks to also develop a legal practice in his hometown of Eutaw, Alabama.  There, JR will continue to represent aggressively his clientele by lending a voice to the underserved and underprivileged.
